The publication of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Energy and Utilities Enterprise Asset Management Software reflects the huge investment we have made in specific industry functionality within our core product, IFS Applications.

We believe that by showcasing IFS as the only ‘Challenger’ in this year’s MQ, Gartner have validated what we can offer to our customers in the energy, utilities, oil and gas industries: a deep breadth of functionality that can be successfully deployed in all sub-sectors of that market.

Gartner defines Energy & Utility to include: “Oil and gas [upstream, midstream and downstream], power generation [fossil, nuclear, hydroelectric and renewables], electricity transmission and distribution, gas transmission and distribution, and water/wastewater.” (Gartner Magic Quadrant for Energy & Utilities Enterprise Asset Management Software, September 2015)

In June 2015, we announced how IFS Applications technology had been selected by a global telecoms player to assist in their growing smart meter business. The entrance of new layers into the smart meter arena brings with it innovation, agility and a fresh impetus to meeting the stated demand for the networked society. Some estimates say that over 800 million smart meters will be installed globally by 2020. The project management, logistical and technological challenges are huge but can be overcome if you choose the correct solution and providers.

The partner programme that we have embarked upon has only been running a few years in its current format. As recent announcements have revealed, this programme has attracted interest from both large and medium size organizations that want to work with IFS on the implementation side. This support will clearly enhance, strengthen and complement the (IFS) resources available for an implementation.

IFS will continue to grow in the Energy and Utilities market not least because, as recognized in the Gartner MQ study, we have strong customer satisfaction levels as well as deep application functionality.
